I just signed Amnesty International’s petition “Rights hard-won cannot be taken away”, calling on President Erdogan to uphold human rights in Turkey, even in a state of emergency.
As you will no doubt have seen in the news, there are well-founded fears for people’s rights and freedoms as a crackdown of exceptional proportions continues following the failed coup attempt. There is now credible evidence gathered by Amnesty International that detainees are being subjected to beatings and torture, including rape.
At a time of great fear and uncertainty the government must not trample over people’s rights in the pursuit of justice.
Join me and tell President Erdogan rights hard won cannot be taken away, even during a state of emergency.
